Sony Clie NR-70/U

OK, I got a legacy Clie NR-70/U with the docking cradle (110 VAC and USB connection), but no O/S or documentation. It charges in the cradle, but when I open the display a "Hold" label pops up and the system goes blank. I figure I need to reinstall the O/S, but the only thing I have is the CD that came with a Palm IIIe.

Kinda quirky behavior:

1. The Clie isn't recognized when I plug it into a USB port.
2. Resetting with the paper clip in the reset button changes nothing.

I went to the Sony support page and downloaded a bunch of updates including sysupdatepacknr70.prc, but I can't install it. Seems to be looking for the O/S on the other side of the phantom USB.

So, can any one suggest what to try next?

Thanks!

On the back of the device near the battery compartment, there should be a small switch labeled "hold". Flip that switch to the opposite position of where it is now then try to turn the Clie on again.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot tonight. Sounds pretty likely to succeed!

Boy am I dumb! I guess I should wear my glasses so I coulda seen the switch labeled "HOLD"!

So now it boots successfully and the USB sees the Palm. Unfortunately, I still get a "Fatal Alert" of "MemoryMgr.c,Line:4365, NULL handle". I've ordered the installation disc from Fleabay, so I hope that, followed by the update, will do the trick.

Anyone know what the maximum memory stick size is? Currently its only packin' a 4MB stick.
