Sony Clie N710, Palm m505 or iPaq 3650?

Are there any reviews of these things? Such as do they actually use the USB interface, and not just a serial to USB hack? Is the expansion slot on top of the m505 in any way compatible with the memory stick slot on the Sony Clie?

So far, I'm of the opinion Sony's screen looks great in comparison with the m505, iPaq is excellent against both, but sucks battery life like anything, but will run nearly anything thrown at it...

I currently can't directly compare the three however...no store seems to have them side by side.

I need answers quick...a special date is coming up, and that date ain't 4th of July :)

if you are looking to spend $500 bucks for a m505 (and the screen on that thing looks like ass! no wonder palm is losing money), then you might want to look at the casio e-125. its a great little pocket-pc, and the screen looks incredible: much better than any other PDA on the market and better than some laptops. so, of your choices, i would choose "d: none of the above". the memory stick of the clie is proprietary and will only worik with sony and licensed devices (which the palm is not). my local compusa had all three of the devices you mentioned on display together, plus the casio units (e-125 and the e500) and the HP PDAs.

Besty Buy has all these units for your viewing enjoyment. Try them out!

I'll be getting my ipaq soon, I'll definitely post back on how it compares to the palms I've used for the past 8 months or so.

I would go with the iPaq because it really has all the functionality of both of the others put together, and a whole lot more. Like the M505, The Ipaq is easily seen under sunlight, and like Sony, the iPaq can play Mp3's. The Ipaq is the ultimate Pocket PC, where as the others are just souped up organisers. Of course it all depends on what "you" need to do with it.

Not sure what I'd do with it. It's not for me :)

The suggestion for Best Buy seems good. There's supposed to be one about 30 miles away from me. I went Fry's, and damn, they at best have mockups for the devices and nothing to play around with.

At $500, let's just say I don't want to screw up and never find out :D

The short life of the battery might be a concern based on what I just read on Cnet. Is 12 hours the total time the iPaq would last if left continuously on? Palms seeem to get a few weeks?!?

So we have propritary Sony stuff with a high resolution screen okay lighting (with probably useless MP3 function), "standard" m505 expansion with a not so good screen, or an extremely versitle, pretty and fast juice sucking iPaq.

Do you want to keep the MS feature? I have played with Windows CE device and that damn thing crashes every 5 minutes or so. (I don't know what the hell my friend has done to it.) I personally don't care about if it's Sony or Palm, err... maybe a bit leaning towards Palm since I don't need all that movie and mp3 crap.

Bottom line is: Stay away from Window CE.

Stay away from Sony with the memory stick. I have an HP Jornada 548 and really enjoy it, Windows CE not a problem here. I would go with the Ipaq in a heart beat. I have the same battery in mine as the Ipaq does and 12 hours is not a problem. I don't know who would use their device for 12 hours straight anyway. Just pop it on the cradle every night and I am always good to go.

Ipaq if you dont mind the size. I have one, love it except that its a bit heavy and large. Battery life is not that much of a issue, takes very short time to recharge.

This was a very though decision to me, but I picked iPAQ 3650, because:
[*]I got a good deal and the guy was kind enough to exchange the serial cradle with USB one for free. ;)[*]The screen is so much better than Palm m505 (better resolution, brighter)
[*]Palm m505 doesn't include any MMC, I have to buy optionally and that thing costs nearly 100 bucks (64MB one)[*]I need a good Chinese handwriting support.

Good choice. You also get built in MP3 stuff, and its a lot more fun to use :)
