i have a Sony CRX225A-U CDRW. it worked fine on my WD40gb then i switched to my WD200gb and now its only functioning as a normal CD-rom. Device manager detects it as a Sony CDRW but when i open My Computer it's labeled as 'CD Drive'. if i try to burn something with Roxio EzCD5 it says theres no recorder installed. theres no driver software in the box. im in a rush and couldnt find any drivers in the 10 minutes that i searched. please help me solve this problem. i wont be back until 12:30am PST. all your help and advice is appreciated. TIA!!!

In the future, please provide more detail such as:
1) Does your BIOS indicate the correct model of the drive?
2) Have you tried removing the drive in Device Manager, and then rebooting so the drive is re-detected?
3) Have you checked the jumpers on the back of the drive?

First of all, drivers will not help you. There are no "drivers" for cdroms or burners other than what windows detects. More than likely, your software does not support your drive. Did you update roxio to the latest version? If not, try that. Or else you can download a demo copy of nero and see what that comes up with. Also, I assume you did a clean reinstall of XP and installed the proper chipset drivers?

When you changed HDD, did you also change OS? Have you tried reinstalling your OS over the top of the current install? Suggest you go to the Device Manager and remove all CD-R drives. Then reboot, and go to Control Panel for install/troubleshoot new hardware. Let windows do its thing to reinstall all devices it discovers. Have you checked to see if the new HDD has a different jumper setup? Did one install have jumbers or cables on Cable Select, vs Master and Slave? Are you trying to work with 40 conductor 40 connector IDE cables, or the required 80 conductor 40 connector ATA-66, ATA-100/ATA-133 cables? Did you crimp, pull, point-damage, or otherwise ruin an IDE cable? Have you tried substituting cables? If it worked in the other setup, it should work in this setup unless something has been changed or damaged.

hey everyone thanks for all your help. the problem was i had TWO updates to install for EzCD5. since i was in a rush i only chose the latest update which didnt work because the first one is supposed to remove the Take Two program which is no longer supported on XP or something.
