I have a Sony Spressa CRX 145E recently purchased that claims to be compatible with W2k (on the box).
I cannot get it to Write in W2K. only in W98. Have tried Hotburn,CloneCD, Nero5.0 - all recognize the drive but fail when initializing the media. Get error 8 at sector 16.
Is anyone able to use a Sony to write to CD in W2K?

I am using an HP9100 series which is a Sony something or other without problems. Get the ASPI Check proggy from Adaptec and update the ASPI layer if necessary. If you do not intend to intstall any Adaptec software you may need to hunt down Force ASPI. Also make sure you have the latest firmware.

Thanks Auric,
I just downloaded Sony's latest Firmware for W2k and installed without any success. Still getting this initial error about a "bad disk" whenever ititiating a burn, but the check disk utility shows ok before the process begins.
I'll try the Adeptic and continue trying to get in touch with Sony. Kept me on hold for 30min and then hung up.

Here are some links for ya.

General CDR stuff:

I noticed there is a winaspi for Nero, but I would go with Adaptec first.

Force ASPI is here (this is Adaptec's ASPI with a hacked install so you do not have to install Adaptec software first):
