Sony CD-RW drive problems

I have a Sony 8x4x32 EIDE CD-RW (Connected to Onboard Promise ATA-100 controler) That will write CD-RW's fine with any software but will not write CD-R's. It made one last good copy 2 days ago and won't now. I've tried different software it writes all the data but the cd is usless because the computer won't read it and the audio cd's won't work in my car
