Sony CD/MP3 players

I'm looking at picking up a CD MP3 player today for a trip I'm going on tomorrow. I already have a flash-based MP3 player but wanted to have a large stockpile of stuff to listen to, so I was looking for something cheap.

It looks like the Sony DNE300s are highly reviewed. However, I can't tell if I can use MP3s on them, or if I have to convert to Son'y DRM-enabled ATRAC codec. If so, I'd have to downconvert all my existing mp3s, which would suck.

Anyone have a sony and know if I can play MP3s?

Does it say it will play MP3s? Get it and read the manual. If so, then it happens to be a player that plays ATRAC as well, even though Sony employees are the only ones who ever bother, and even then only in testing things 🙂.

I have an old Sony CD Deck and a Sony MP3 CD Changer in my car. They take everything I throw at it but.... its old. It only displays the first 8 letters of each filename and I can't play specific directories. Only Sequential order or 4 random modes. However I got these before Sony went DRM-happy so results may vary
