I'm looking at picking up a CD MP3 player today for a trip I'm going on tomorrow. I already have a flash-based MP3 player but wanted to have a large stockpile of stuff to listen to, so I was looking for something cheap.

It looks like the Sony DNE300s are highly reviewed. However, I can't tell if I can use MP3s on them, or if I have to convert to Son'y DRM-enabled ATRAC codec. If so, I'd have to downconvert all my existing mp3s, which would suck.

Anyone have a sony and know if I can play MP3s?

If all else fails, take a CD of MP3s with you to Best Buy or wherever and ask to test before buying...

Does it say it will play MP3s? Get it and read the manual. If so, then it happens to be a player that plays ATRAC as well, even though Sony employees are the only ones who ever bother, and even then only in testing things :).

I have an old Sony CD Deck and a Sony MP3 CD Changer in my car. They take everything I throw at it but.... its old. It only displays the first 8 letters of each filename and I can't play specific directories. Only Sequential order or 4 random modes. However I got these before Sony went DRM-happy so results may vary
