Update: Best Buy will be offering this bundle (46V5100 and PS3 slim) + PS3 game + (mediocre) Blu-ray movie for $951 beginning Sunday, 6 Dec. This is superior to the Black Friday week SonyStyle deal. See my latest post below for more.

This promotion is on the front page of every deals site, but in case you haven't already seen it:

SonyStyle: Bravia KDL-46V5100 and PS3 slim (120GB) for $999.98 if purchased together. Discounted price only appears at final checkout stage before payment. Other discounts / promotions do not appear to stack. You'll probably be assessed local sales tax.

The 'V5100' series comprise Sony's least expensive 120 Hz, 1080p sets. The 46V5100 typically costs a little over $1000 -- so the PS3 is essentially free. I think they were originally intended to compete with the Samsung B650s, but given how much the 'V' prices have come down, I'm guessing the consumer market doesn't consider them exactly comparable (perhaps W5100 is better matched). One nice feature the Samsung B600s have that the Sony Vs lack: ability to play many MPEG4 files (XviD, H.264, etc) from USB.

That said -- you get a PS3! Use that as your media player...

Wow, no comments so far, this seems smoking, basically a free PS3, enough of a deal for me to actually consider $ony again.

Heh, I assume everyone has seen the deal elsewhere (as I said, it was on the front page of every deals site).

Have been debating between 40 and 46-inch models. I may have difficulty hosting a 46-inch telly, but given the slight price difference, it seems silly not to get the 46V5100.

Got this TV back in June. Very nice set for the price.

I have read that Samsung B 600 series has slightly better picture quality after calibration. I didn't feel it was worth the $200-300 price difference though.

Also, I believe you have to go to the W series Sony to get the MPEG4 playback via USB.

As I've updated my initial post to reflect, Best Buy will be offering the Sony Bravia 46V5100 and PlayStation 3 slim for $951. To obtain the discount you must buy this telly, the 120 GB PS3 slim, one PS3 game, and one Blu-ray movie from the following selection:

- Games: LittleBigPlanet (game of the year edition); Uncharted 2; Ratchet & Clank Future: A crack in time

- Movies: The Ugly Truth; The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3; Year One (all widescreen AC3 versions)

The discount will not appear at the till until they've scanned all of the four necessary items (TV, PS3, game, movie). I very much doubt this will be available online. The bundle does qualify for 3 years interest-free financing at Best Buy.

There are extensive threads on SD and FatWallet already for this deal. Some punters report that the discount has begun showing up at the register today.

Note that this week (probably ending today), one can get a similar bundle with the somewhat superior KDL-46W5100 for $1099.

Deal is live. And it's available online as well (though I've no idea how to do this, since one can't search for the 46V5100 on the BB website -- perhaps using SKU?), though there is no free shipping. Delivery costs $70, and one can't order to pick up at a physical shop. However, Bing cashback (5 per cent?) alleviates some of the pain of delivery fees.

Some punters are reporting that the equivalent W5100 bundle is still ringing up at the till for $1100 despite the fact the official price is higher this week.

Edited: was approved for Best Buy three years interest-free financing, hoo. Now I've to see if any sets are still available near me.

They have been having many sales lately.

My dad just picked up a 52" XBR with all-in-one surround and additional BR ($800 value FREE) There are 3-4 different combos

I believe anyone selling the sony tv's has to participate as advertised on Sony's site

Went in for this bundle. It's the third telly I've ordered in less than a year (Pioneer KURO at my parents' house; Samsung LN40B630 for my ex-girlfriend's flat; and now one for me, heh). There weren't any KDL-46V5100s left at the Best Buy I visited, so they'll be delivering one next Saturday.

Had a devil of a time finding LittleBigPlanet -- they claimed to have 2 copies left, but it took literally ten minutes searching before I found a copy face-down in the bottom of their PS3 games cabinet. I bought Ugly Truth as my Blu-ray movie: all the movies seemed awful in my opinion, but I'd rather have Katherine Heigl on a useless Blu-ray case than John Travolta or a Cro-Magnon Jack Black.

I've fairly high standards for displays (been agonising over a 24-inch IPS LCD selection over a year now), and as I walked round the shop and noticed they still had two Pioneer Elites sitting boxed in a corner, I thought to myself, Am I mad? Why am I buying a mid-level LCD? Kept wondering if I should upgrade to a W5100 instead. And then if I spent over $1100, why not buy a 50-inch Pioneer KRP-500M for $1500, etc etc etc.

Reminded myself the 46V5100 was sufficient to my needs in my current living situation, that I was getting a free PS3, and three years of interest-free financing. It helped that they had a 46V5100 on display, and it wasn't anything like as bad as I had feared. Must hope I get one without horrid 'red flash' issues...

Edited: apparently the 46W5100 bundle was $1041 today! Mmm, if any had been available (it seems to be sold out throughout my state... and the next one), I probably would have got that given only a $90 difference. Regrets... regrets... regrets. Heh.

Get another $100+ off on this if you buy BB GC at Krogers this week. For every $100 BB Gift Card you buy, you get an additional $10. So, on a $1K package you can get another $100 off.

Well at least in the Sacramento area all combos of tv are dead... I guess this is a clearance sale for discontinued models... Found that out the hard way...
