Sony BDP-S350 on wireless setup problems

Hi everyone,

I am having problems setting up this player to access BD-Live (its over rated, I know 😉 )through a wireless setup since there is no cable modem setup nearby. I am using a Linksys WGA54G game adapter as the go between my wireless setup at home.

I heard that this adapter uses WEP setup only and wonder if that is my problem as the rest of my home network is on WPA personal. When setting up the device, it however, had no problem seeing the WPA connection and seem to configure ok.

On the player network settings, I used the following:
IP addy: 192.168.100.250
IP subnet: 255.255.255.000
gateway: 192.168.100.100 (for Linksys router)
DNS1: 24.229.054.213
DNS2: 207.044.096.128

It still would not connect so what am I doing wrong.

Any help would be appreciated.

Update.

I talked to LiveChat at Sony and it looks like there is no way to connect the player to a game adapter to wireless network.

That makes zero sense. All a "game adapter" is is a wireless bridge. Your BR-D player won't even know it's there if it's set up properly. Have you tried using DHCP on the player?

That makes zero sense. All a "game adapter" is is a wireless bridge. Your BR-D player won't even know it's there if it's set up properly. Have you tried using DHCP on the player?

I guess it doesn't make sense. I tried DHCP but it did not connect. I'll keep trying.

I'd recommend getting a WAP54G instead. Works like a charm.

My guess is that your bridge isn't connected to the rest of your wireless network properly. If you've got a desktop, try making the bridge work with that first.

good reply. I will try that. I guess I should have gotten the WAP54G. May be easier to work with.

WEP is not the same as WPA. You either have to lose the security on the entire network or get a modern bridge with WPA/WPA2 capability. WEP is so easily cracked that it should no longer be used -- if you're doing security, why do it wrongly?

The Asus WL-520gU is around $35 AR these days, and can run in client bridge mode when flashed with DD-WRT. This method would be very feature rich (including supporting WPA, WPA2, multiple devices on the switch, etc.,) at the cost of setup complexity (flashing it with DD-WRT firmware, and then setting it up in wireless bridge mode).

There are other off-the-shelf bridges which support WPA/WPA2, but these typically cost more. E.g. the D-Link DAP-1522.
