"We are pleased to have put this litigation behind us," said Immersion CEO Victor Viegas. "Our new business agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment is specifically intended to enable advanced vibration capability for the benefit of the PlayStation gaming community. We are happy to provide our technology in this regard and hope to make technical proposals very soon with respect to use of our technology in the PlayStation products."

Hopefully this isn't a repost.

Well, nobody has bought a PS3 yet, so they still have time to add the feature

It's about time. Unfortunately, this isn't going to cause more people to buy the PS3. It will help make people happier who already have or were going to buy it.

This is pretty much like a savior for the PS3, solves all the problems.

It's never too late. Look at the original Playstation.

This should be fun :D Sony in October:
No regrets over PS3 pads - Harrison

Sony's head of Worldwide Studios, Phil Harrison, has defended the company's decision to include a motion-sensing feature in the PS3 controller and leave out a vibration function.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz's Rob Fahey, when asked if he had any regrets in light of criticism regarding the controller's design, Harrison replied, "Not at all."

"I think that the next generation interfaces that can be created built on sixaxis motion sensitivity give tremendous gameplay benefits that far outweigh a reactive vibration function," he continued.

"The vibration function is the game sending a single channel of feedback to the player - six axis of input puts the player in control in a much richer, deeper way. So, game design can go in much more interesting directions as a result of that than from receiving a single input from the game itself."

Harrison was then asked why Sony didn't simply include both features - as Immersion, which makes rumble and force feedback technology, has claimed this would be perfectly feasible.

"I think the caveat to that statement always has to be based on the fact that when we make a pad, we're making maybe 150, 200 million of them," Harrison explained.

"So it has to be done at a price, and it has to be done at a volume that fits our production requirements. I think the decision that we?ve made to build in the sixaxis functionality, and Bluetooth wireless, and great battery life, and all the other functionality that comes with it, far outweighs the chatter that we?re getting on vibration. And, it's incredibly light! Just pick it up!"

At least Sony seems to have started doing something smart for every 2-3 of their stupid acts.

Sony is dropping hardware BC in the EU (d'oh!)

EU games will cost 10 GBP less than 360 games (woohoo!)

1,000+ PS2 games will work on EU PS3s at launch (woohoo!)

We'll make you guess which ones! Muahahah! (d'oh!)

Rumble may be back (woohoo!)

Riiiight.
Haven't seen any evidence of this whatsoever from pre-order prices.
Also remember that the 360 already has budget games and second hand games.
I will believe it when I see it.

To be fair, Sony isn't dropping BC in the EU. They're switching to software (which you already know) for all PS3's eventually. They just happen to be doing it early for Europe. This cut costs but there are also rumors that software emulation will allow for upscaling and anti-aliasing. There appear to be pics of an upscaled FF12 in the second page of this thread.

List price of most new 360 games: 49.95 GBP
List price of most new PS3 games: 39.95 GBP

Yes, discounted, used and old games are/will be cheaper on both platforms.

Especially whatever those 1,000+ PS2 games the BC supports turn out to be :)

frankly they should have left the hardware in and given the option of enabling software bc. they touted the hardware as a selling point for a long time remember? so if you rip it out, you should discount the price of the hardware.
