Update:

DPReview Preview

10 MP, image stabilization built into the body, anti-dust system, and can mount Konica Minolta lenses.

It will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the other cams. If IQ is good, build quality is good, and ISO noise is low, it will be a winner.

Low noise on a CCD? I think Nikon even went CMOS for their high end.

ISO increments are not up to snuff.

But if it debuts at $1K or less, Canon will fire back with a 10 MPX CMOS very soon.

None of their standard zoom lenses are very fast. Nothing at F2.8. (The prime shouldn't be in that list.)

I wouldn't really worry about the lens line-up so much as the performance of the camera. KM and third parties already has a wide variety of lenses to choose from.

All the rumors pointed to Canon firing back to the Nikon D200 which they have not. Please take your fanboy-ism elsewhere.

You lost me at Sony. Though I've never had anything super-high-end from them. I've spent plenty of money on Sony video cameras and digi-cameras that left a sour taste in my mouth :(

stupid megapixel wars...

the only thing I see it has for it is onboard IS (and a very big only thing). Does anyone else know more about this? Wasn't there another camera that implemented this as well? I assume it's something similar to EIS that video cameras use. I found that on my panasonic gs120 to be very useful. I would love to have that on my 300D.

As much as I dislike sony as a whole... I hope that it does well, get canon/nikon putting some IS incamera. But I don't see it happening.. too much money to be made on lenses :(

bump for update

For what it has for the money, I wouldn't jump to a Rebel XT, D50/D70s, E-500 just yet if you're waiting to jump on a DSLR...

I would. Each of those are proven winners with companies you can trust. Sony just doesn't do high end digital photography.

Canon and Nikon FTW. Huge variety of lenses. And a huge variety of 3rd party lenses.
This camera was meant for Sony cult members that chant Sony over and over again in Latin or Klingon.

Even Gaylic at times. :p

Not sure I'll ever consider moving outside of Nikon or Canon in the camera world again. My D50 should hold me over for quite some time anyhow, it's not like I'm switching anytime soon. :)

So, what's the deal with the Sony's bad reputation? Is it because their stuff is not good? Or because the stuff is decent, but overpriced? Bad customer support?

I've never noticed anything wrong with Sony. Their Playstation line is on top, their displays/tv's are decent, their computers are so-so, but overall, I've never seen a "bad" product.

I'm in the market for a DSLR, coming from Canon P&S cameras. Most of my friends have Sony P&S cameras, which seem pretty decent. Granted, Sony has never played in the pro camera market, but they are inheriting a very decent line. And based on the previews, they seem to be putting a lot of weight into doing it right. Of course, I'm not going to rush out and buy it until the verdict is in on the production model, but I'm considering it. So, what am I missing?

My former $2,700 Sony boat anchor. Broke after 17 months due to a manufacturing defect which Sony knows about but denies. They left me totally hanging and called me a liar. I used to be a lifelong Sony purchaser but after this incident along with a couple others (you might find them in the archives here), I refuse to buy anything from them at all.

Why does everyone think it's limited lens selection? Konica Minolta, Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina among others already offer 50+ lenses that will work on this body, plus the ones that Sony/Zeiss are coming out with...

Why are you such a Sony fanboy?

I'll never purchase another Sony product either. I had two expensive DVD players that both had the C13 error and Sony refused to fix them. It's a widely known defect and they treated their customers like sh1t.

Sony's consumer equipment is crap.

I'm not a Sony fanboy. I don't own a single Sony product. I actually have about 3k invested into my Olympus gear.

I'm just trying to spread the word about other options in this world besides Canon and Nikon. While they are the monsters of the industry, this camera packs a lot of punch for a low price. This camera is probably made by the KM engineers that they bought out, and is just slapped with the Sony name.

You seem to miss the fact that this sensor is the same one that is in the Nikon D200.

LOL. You had the C13:00 error too?

My $600 DVD player and my bro-in-law's Sony DVD player both suffered that problem.
