Just in case anyone didn't know: At least some Sony 8x DVD+R media is Taiyo Yuden T02, YMMV. I just went into Staples today and saw it there on sale and decided to check the label - dang if the tell-tale "Made in Japan" wasn't on there. 50 unit cake = $16.00 +tx. It's good this week. Normally $34. per.

The Sony DVD-R media that I saw there at the same time was Taiwanese.

Well the Mitsubishi are actually Verbatim, which is part of Mitsubishi Chemical now, so you actually have Data Life Plus blanks - should be at least as good as and even more archival than T-Y.

Yes indeed...although I've always considered Verbatim, Data Life Plus, HP, Mitsui, Philips, Sony , and Traxdata from Japan to be Mitsuibishi Chem as well as their own...I usually just have a look see where the Discs are made or come from instead of the name on the Label as there's many a of flip floppyin within...

Oh, those are the Sony DVD-R. I'm talking the DVD+R. The Sony DVD-R at my Staples were Taiwanese. Mitsubishi makes their non-Data Life Plus disks in Taiwan. I've got some Sony 4x DVD-R and their Id. is SONY04D1 - so I guess they made their own thru that point. Those are made in Taiwan too.

LOL...my bad...I've yet to use DVD+R as I went from DVDRAM to DVD-R because back then the +R's were expensive so to keep it simple and less confusing and .after reading up on the formats...I see no real advantage between the -R and +R other than longevity and native burning in favor of the +R's...am I missing something else?

I recently read This article and saw that the DVDRAM I do handles much of the difference...
