Sony 55" SXRD Rear Projection HDTV KDS-55A3000

WOW!

I did not think I would upgrade for at least another year or two but with Sony exiting the rear projection arena these sets went on sale at a song of a price. Upgraded from a 36" Sony CRT HS420 (720p, HDMI input) which was just about to hit the 3yr mark.

CNET's glowing review!

Not sure if I should have gone for the 60" as it was only $200 more but the 55" seems huge compared to my old 36" CRT.

So how much did you end up paying? And yeah, great sets...beautiful colors, good contrast, great detail. very nice.

$1070+ tax for a brand new unit.

I don't have a 1080P source but Comcast HD is great. I really love the menu, the GUI is pretty easy to navigate.

I've been shopping for a stand today and wow, looks like I'm going to end up paying damn near the price of the TV for one. Once I saw the hidden compartments that hold your center channel from sight I was hooked and now consider it a must have.

Fmr12B where did you find one?

Hated to see this set discontinued..best picture for the price in existance.

I have a 55 and want to find a 50 somewhere.

Just bought a 55a3000 for $1100. Getting delivered tomorrow. I have very high expectations - these things have features like the high-end XBR5 LCDs and even better colors, but cost a fraction of the price (albeit at the expense of some depth additions).

These are supposedly Deep Color-capable, too, so there's a 30-bit or 36-bit DLP engine in there.

Apologies - it's an SXRD set. No rainbows here, I suppose, although there is supposedly slightly more SSE than a comparable DLP.

I grabbed it at Sears - display model. Looked like it was in good shape, although they were complete jerks about actually hooking it up to a source to test it. "Do you really think anyone's going to buy a display model TV without making sure it's still in good working shape?" "Uhhhh... let me get my manager."

It seemed like it was in good shape to me, although judging from the utterly idiotic way they carried it (hint: don't push it on the floor with the upper frame), I'm going to be fairly picky about accepting the delivery today, and am definitely going to test it - screw the delivery guys.

And, yeah, you're not going to find an LCD with these kinds of features and size for much less than $3000.
