Sony 34XBR960 as monitor

I recently purchased a Sony 34XBR960 HDTV. I tried hooking it up to my comp via the ATI 9700 PRO AIW using HDMI cable with DVI converter. Although it works, I am limited to low resolution. Per specs my HDTV should be able to go higher. Any ideas on what to check for?

I have not checked to see if there are Sony specific drivers for the HDTV.
I am running Omega ATI drivers.
