> DVD+RW isn't very good IMHO, they don't work in very many set top boxes, plus they're expensive.
I don't agree (entirely). Technically, DVD+RW looks like it's the standard that will win out in the future, and DVD+R should have all the compatibility benefits of DVD-R. It's the +RW that's causing the problems. Of course, we won't find out until the +R burners are available in April. But it has nearly instant finalization, the ability to start/stop the laser at any time ("lossless linking", like BurnProof(tm) but also useful for rewriting individual blocks on a +RW disk.
I bought a HP DVD100i DVD+RW burner at the end of December, but HP backpedaled on an earlier promise to provide +R compatibility with a firmware upgrade. Now they are saying, "wait for the DVD200i" and users are talking class-action suit. I hadn't opened mine so I returned it.
I have seen +RW media as cheap as $8/blank which is dramatically less than $15/blank I was seeing in December. I think eventually +RW will be *the* standard *if* +R solves the compatibility problems. But until then, I'd avoid this drive unless +RW is all you want to do. Besides, in a month when the +R burners come out, these might be $200.
