This phone was originally about $150. It can accept up to 4 additional handsets, which are also clearance priced at $39.94 (reg. $80). Most of the Target stores around here are out of stock, but I did find three at the Seattle/Northgate store. Marked at reduced price of $118, but scans at $69.94.

Fish,
Thanks for the post. I have been looking for a good deal on multihandset 2.4ghz phone and this one fit the bill. I picked up a base unit and a additional handset tonight.

Also, the additional handsets were marked and on the clearnance racks, but the base unit was still in the glass case and marked as $159 in the case, but on the display (above the glass shelf) it was marked as 139. I had the employee scan it and it came up $69. Them employee then took the $159 tag off the shelf. Oh, and I would check the box and make sure the battery is in the box, especially if it isn't in a glass case. They had several additional handset that didn't have the batteries in the box. A couple of the boxes did, I got one that did of course. ;)

I was going to buy one of these phones when they first came out, until I went to the store and saw how ugly they were. Back then they were like $150.00 too. I still wouldn't buy one at this price. By the way, tastes vary, so you may think this phone looks awesome.

I got the non-answering version and an extra handset from the Radio Shack special last week. I am very pleased overall with the phones, and because of the curved shape, you can hold it up to your ear without hanging up the phone like my other Panasonics.

I think the phones acutally look kinda cool, but they are just phones.

The sound quality is excellent. I like the looks of it a lot, especially the jog wheel, but to each his own.

Can anyone comment on these phone's ability to have 2 phones in on the same call? i.e can you be talking on the base, and have someone in another room pick up one of additional handsets plugged into an outlet and be in on the conversation?

I think I had heard somewhere that you couldn't with these, which would be a big bummer.

Other than that, and the fact that Sony's don't put a mute button on their speakerphones, I really wanna pick up one of these sets.

For those of you in the Tampa Bay area there is still one base unit and a few handsets left at the Target on Waters Ave. as of last night when I left with mine.

Man, that's a bummer. Do the additional handsets have the capability to be plugged into a phone jack, or is the only connection they ave strictly to an electrical jack?

If they do have the phone jack connection, can you then have 2 phone in 1 conversation?

<< Will this interfere with a Toshiba 2.4GHz cordless phone? >>

Only if you put them in the same room together and turn off the lights. Otherwise they should behave themselves. Watch out for your microwave, too. I hear that the radio transmissions from your fillings are picked up by it and transmitted to area 51.

Ha ha...funny stuff.

On a serious note though, I do have a 2.4 Ghz phone in my kitchen which picks up all kinds of interference whenever the microwave is in use. Anyone know if a 900 Mhz phone would solve the problem?

Thanks.

As much as I love sony electronic products, I've purchased over 10 sony and panasonic cordless phones over the past many years. While the Panasonics always lasted forever and never had a single problem, every single Sony cordless failed on their batteries. The sony batteries never held on for more than 2 years. I wonder if they improved since then . . . does anyone notice the same problems?

My Panasonic 900MHz works perfectly with my roommates Toshiba 2.4GHz and our 2 microwaves (1 downstairs & 1 upstairs). There are great bargains on 900MHz & 2.4GHz cordless phones at CostCo B&M.

kroq - You're totally right. Panasonic makes the best cordless phones.

I think I'll pass on this Sony due to possible interference with my roommates 2.4 and if I get WiFi that may wreak more havoc.

I saw this phone at a Target store I went to Monday night. Seems like a terrific deal, but I remembered a post I read somewhere that said the Sony phone interferes with wireless network setup. So if you talk on the phone, you can't surf the net unless you have a wired connection. I can work around microwaving stuff at the same time I'm online, but I won't for phone calls....;)

I've had good experience with our Sony - an older 900MHz. I saw this deal at Target too, but thought they were ugly and opted for a vTech 2.4GHz w/ caller ID for $50. Then I went to Best Buy and found an open box Uniden EXI8966 (very similar to Consumer Reports top-ranked model) for $55.

Both have been great so far. My wife loves the Uniden.

Of course we have to keep one corded phone around in case the power fails. :)

nope...you can't plug the additional headset into a phone jack, only an electrical jack to charge the phone.

Sorry, but this is an OT question. I got this Sony phone/answering yesterday at Target (Cupertino, CA on Stevens Creek Blvd.). However, I purchased the display model. It did NOT come with the AC adapter. The Sony AC adapter necessary for this phone is a 9V 750mA. I found a 9V 1000mA AC adapter at work (it's actually the AC adapter from a breast pump ... hehehe).

My question is: Can I use the 9V 1000mA AC adapter on something that is rated at 9V 750mA? From my understanding, it should be OK as long as the voltage ratings are the same and the mA ratings aren't too drastically different. Am I wrong?

You really know how to milk a hot deal! That will work, but be sure to check the polarity of the plug.

Please disconnect if you feel an urge to suck on your phone!

LOL.

How do I check the polarity of the plug?

Where you plug it in, there is usually a symbol like a "C" with a dot inside the C. The dot illustrates the little metal post you see where you plug it in. If there is a + sign for the post, that means positive, and that's what most devices have. However, there are some devices that the post is negative, and that's why there is a symbol there to begin with. Of course, the same has to be looked at on the adapter. Almost all the time, everything will match, but if it doesn't you may short the device out.
