Sonoma Platform: Dual Channel Performance

Huh. That's pretty interesting. Dual-Channel is better, but not by as much as one would expect. I wish they would have added 2GB RAM to the test though, as that's what I plan to upgrade to (from my lowly 2x 256MB config on my i9300 now 😉 ), and would have liked to see the performance difference between them.

In terms of performance that is dependant on memory efficieny, you won't see but a +/- 1-2% difference between 2x512MB & 2x1GB. Now if you were to do something like Photoshop, you would see a huge improvement from 2x512 to 2x1GB because photoshop loves bandwidth AND capacity. But most applications that need >1GB RAM (BF2 for example) will see the benefit mostly from the capacity and very little from dual channel.

I need to get more memory for my i9300 as I am studying to be a video game designer and will likely be working with apps such as 3dsMax and Maya. Those, from what I've heard, eat up memory like it's air 😉 . So, even though the max amount of RAM I can put into my lappy is 2GB, I'm gonna max it out now, as its only about $40-50 more for 2GB (2x 1GB) VS 1GB (2x 512MB). So, why not get more 😉 .

Didn't anandtech or some other website test the effect dual channel had on the video capabilities before??? Just not compared to a tuirion system, just a non dual channel.

They might've, but I've not seen a comparison that does diff dual/single channel capacities in a comprehensive manner.
