I bought Return to Castle Wolfenstein many moons ago and have enjoyed it for a while. The past week I've been playing online and such - but one night, I suddenly couldn't join any other servers after one game. When I tried joining, I got a refusal of connection because someone else was using my CD Key. :frown: It's MINE, dammit. I bought it. I own it. This happened with every single server I tried connecting to.

Oh well... there isn't anything I can do, can I???

YES, there is!!!!! Don't let this guy get away with it.

Tell them that you own the game, you did not share the code, and you can send them proof of purchase.

You haven't been using any hacks of any sort have you? :D How can you possibly get it stolen? Unless someone guessed it somehow..

but anyway.. definately call him ID and tell them your cd key has been stolen.. they'll probably cancel that key and issue you a new one when you provide proof... somehow.

Sure but those are usually only programs with a list of known keys or they're generated randomly... either way, that was pretty unlucky

This is one of the reasons why warezers piss me off so much. I don't mind if they pirate for themselves but I get irritated when they start denying genuine users from enjoying their games .

There could have been a case where the auth server refused to auth you because it didn't release the previous time you were on. Have you tried again, hours later, days later? I'd be surprised if you still couldn't play after a day. Perhaps someone did get your key, maybe you have something on your hard drive (ala trojan, etc) that gave someone your info.

Its a thought, it may very well be wrong.

Not only that but the stores themselves will sometimes open the boxes and put a tape on it and the unknown buyer won't even notice it. Also I've seen EB selling used software, but obviously the key has been ripped from the previous buyer.

When you buy it make damm sure it's never been opened. I'm not saying this is what happened in this case but hey.

Thats why I don't agree with their return policy.. I simply don't believe PC games should be able to be returned to the store..

I agree with you. Especially with the advent of CDR and CloneCD, etc, its pretty much impossible not to copy a cd and return the original. Problem is: if the game doesn't work, you are out of cash. Most companies simply won't give you a refund because the game won't run, you don't like it, etc. If game companies would release possibly better demos, or would allow you to get a refund back from their site (especially with a CD key deal), it would be better.

Getting a refund from a distributor, and having them kill that specific key, would reduce this problem. Unfortunately, they costs more than to them than its worth.

I've seen guys walk into the store, open a box, write down the cd-key, put the box back, and leave. Store clerks don't even do anything when you tell them. So check that box.

One thing I noticed when I went to buy Icewind Dale II at the Software Etc. store where the above incident happened was that you had to ask the clerks to get the game from the backroom. They had two empty boxes on the shelves and a sticker saying it was in stock, this is an empty box, and to ask the clerk for a copy to purchase. I also saw this at an EB where some of the newer games on the shelves were just boxes.

That should be used in all stores.. I love that idea. I'm sick of hearing about how people are stealing cd-keys.. especially for cs cheaters..

Okay, I was able to play last night. The ID phone message said that it's possible to show the error that the CD Key is in use but doesn't necessarily mean that someone else is using it.

WTF else could it mean!?

It's probably just server issues. As long as it doesn't keep happening, I wouldn't worry about it.
