My old username on Xp was 'blackburn'. I installed xp over itself after slipstreaming and using nlite (thanks guys! :D! it fixed the ftp problem) and now my username is 'forfuckssakes' because I can't use 'blackburn'. I went and deleted the blackburn folder from documents and settings (apparently XP didn't take care of crap that was left over).

XP STILL basicly acts like that account still exists and cannot be used as a name, but it won't let me access it. Sort of like a malevolent ghost.

GRRR.

Did you make sure that the PROFILE was deleted also?

Try going to the registry (start -> run -> regedit) and search for instances of the name that can be deleted.

The profile with your old name is not there, because you deleted blackburn folder before deleting profile. Look again into User Profiles and delete the one the says somethinhg like - uknown profile. Also, you may have to delete blakcburn user name from the Users object of Local Users and Groups in Computer Management
