sonicwall vpn and remote xp pro desktop

We have a sonicwall pro 230 that can be used for vpns. The problem is that after you connect to the pro 230. Than launch remore desktop there is an error displayed that computer is not available. We also have a regular win 2000 server box that we sometime use for vpn. If you connect through that box and launch remote desktop everything works fine. Does anyone out there have this working and if so how did you sit it up. I'm using the sonicwall global vpn client for users to establish there connections.

Are you using the firewall features of the Sonic?
If so this is probably your issue, do you have the port for RDP closed?

Also, what DNS settings do the clients get when they connect to the VPN box?

Yes I'm using the sonicwall as our firewall. As far as rdp protocal I have ports 3389 forwarded as I stated before this works great if I run the vpn server off of the 2000 server box. I have 3389 forwareded to a range of all ip addresses of the local lan so users can get back into there workstations using remote desktop. If I view the connection status of the sonicwall global vpn client it states I'm on nework 192.168.1.0, subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and my port is listed as and and also my connection status is listed as complete. What other remote desktop software do people use out there that you've seen users connection to there desktops through sonic wall with.

If you are coming in over VPN, you could also use VNC, it would be encrypted through the VPN tunnel so no worries about sniffing traffic.
RDP uses more than just port 3389, i think it also uses 3388 and 3390.

I am forwarding the following ports:

3387 through 3391 and it works fine.

So let me verify this you are forwarrding tcp ports 3387 and 3391. Using your sonicwall and you are able to connect back using the remote desktop through xp. Also are you using the sonicwall global vpn client to esablish your initial connection.

Can you ping the workstation you are trying to connect to?

Opening the ports don't matter if your VPN connection is configured properly but for non-VPN connections, Remote Desktop only needs 3389 opened, no others.

If I connect from home and try open a command prompt how would I go about ping a workstation thats at work is it the same process as being on your local lan.
