Can anyone tell me if I can get a Cisco 831 to act as a DSL router with a Sonicwall (not sure of the model #... let's say a Tele3) behind it doing the firewall/vpn?

I have heard that Sonicwall won't play nice with the Cisco, but Sonicwall assures me it will.

edit: just to clarify, there will still be a DSL router connected directly to the DSL line, then to the Cisco 831, then to the Sonicwall. I know it sounds crazy, but this is what the customer wants. And, as they say, the customer is always...

So, can the Sonicwall play nice with a Cisco 831 in front of it?

I installed Sonicwall behind the Cisco 16xx (don't remember if it was a 14) everything went smooth...no prob whatsoever. I don't see why the 831 would be different...

heh. more like crazy like a fox. there's actually another layer going on here. the true end user is a retail store. my "customer" provides service to the end user. the "customer" wants to sell the sonicwalls because they buy wholesale for $300 a pop and sell it for $1000 each. so to the 5000+ retail shops, this is a cash cow for my customer. i just don't wanna havta pull out my equipment. my customer wants to manage the VPN themselves. while i think they can for a good 100-500 sites, i know they'll get swamped with 5000. that's where my 831 comes into play. so i wanna make sure they play nice.

anyhoo, everything seems to indicate it's good to go. i think i was just getting some FUD from the cisco guys.

If you have them, how about you try it. If not, I would go to BroadBandReports Cisco forum and ask if they hav tried it. That is the only Cisco forum I know of.
