I didn't see a model number on the bottom of the handle when I looked today. However, some searching revealed it's evidently the Sonicare Advantage. No matter now, the case completely broke to pieces when I tried to get at the batteries. I don't think I'll be buying another Sonicare. I'm looking at the Oral-B models. There are many to choose from and it's pretty unclear what to get. There's talk of 50% rebates, but I can't tell if I'll get that buying online. Maybe I'll wait for a deal to become obvious to me and until I have more time to research what's out there and the ins and outs of the features. The 5000 and 4000 look pretty good. Costco has a $20 coupon now for a pair of Oral-B, but I don't know the feature set or what the base price is, I hate it when their mailers do that.

I still have a cheapy Oral-B Vitality that I picked up for around $15 a couple of years ago. It's now my only electric, but I suppose I'll get by with it until I get a better one.

I broke my sonic care (dropped), and decided to go oral b as well...I get 6 month checkups and my dentist said buildup was not as good as last checkup, I told it's probably because I dropped my sonic care and replaced it with an oral b (one of those cheap ones that take AA batteries). She said that is probably it. She said the Oral b is still great, just as long as you brush.

I got another sonic care, and went to the dentist again (every 6 months), and she said it was much better then last checkup. I didn't even tell her I went back to sonic care.

I know dentists push sonic care, so I tried to see what she thought each time. That was enough for me to stick with sonic care.

I have meticulous dental habits, brush twice a day and floss once, even when I had the oral b.

just my 2 cents

The cheap Oral B is the Vitality, and I paid less than $20. It's not in the same class as the SmartSeries Oral-B's, according to user reviews. In fact, the one you got was probably worse than my Vitality, which doesn't have AA's. Check Amazon for reviews.

probably, I just wanted something to tide me over ... I was going to get a sonic care again, which I did.

That's what you use, right? I suppose you fix your car by leaving it on the side of the road and walking.

I went from using my Sonicare to using manuals again. I have 2 unused brushes still left over for my Sonicare.

I have one unused Sonicare brush, but that's no real incentive to get another Sonicare. I figure an electric toothbrush is a very wise investment. The cost of dentists' services is a lot more than an occasional electric toothbrush, plus you have to realize that you only have one set of teeth and gums. I want a system that does a really good job of preventing problems.

I only use a manual in a pinch. If I go for a 2 day trip I don't usually carry my electric but do bring a "manual." What I use manuals for 99% of the time is those odd cleaning jobs, i.e. outside of my mouth!

I bought a new Oral-B Smartseries 5000 for under $80 shipped off ebay a couple of days ago. Looking online I don't see batteries for it. I think it came on the market about 2 years ago so there's no demand for batteries for it yet but I'm guessing they'll pop up in a year or so when folks' 5000's start crapping out. I do see batteries for the Oral-B Triumph, but I figure I can't assume it's the same battery. They really should design these to have user replaceable batteries. Well, it does look like the Oral-B's are much more so than the Sonicares, whose cases don't come apart.
