Yeah, I know this is a computer hardware forum. But I really don't know of a good forum for music discussion that isn't focused on one band / label... if someone does, please do tell.

I've somehow completely missed Sonic Youth for my entire life, though they've been around for all of my life plus a couple years. I'm just now getting into their music, and I really like a lot of it. Daydream Nation, Sonic Nurse, Murray Street, and Dirty are my current infatuations.

Anyone else here into the band? I find it interesting that they have three members on vocals on various songs. You don't really find that very often in 'rock'.

Never heard Sonic Youth, but I have heard (more like "seen in videos") three member (or more) vocals in Yes, Dream Theater, Pink Floyd, and maybe Iron Maiden (or that could have been only two). Some of that goes beyond "rock," and that's far from an all-encompassing sample, but more than one singer doesn't seem to be that unusual in my experience.

It's not totally unique, I was just saying I think it's interesting. And it's not a backup vocal thing, three different members do lead vocals on different songs.

Backup singers are very common. I probably should have been more clear on that.

Was? They're still making albums :)

Sonic Nurse was released in 2004. It was my introduction to the band, and has some of my favorite songs on it.

I've heard them off and on since the 80s (being a geezer), but never liked their music enough to buy a CD. Too much distortion, not enough melody for my taste. Give me some X, Concrete Blonde, Public Image, or Oingo Boingo for my pop-punk fix :)

I do respect them though, for making the music they wanted to for a couple of decades regardless of fads or what the record company marketing scum suggested would sell.

sonic youth is of the most influential rock bands of the past 20 years, up there with dinosaur jr and the pixies.
