I live in NJ and it's still a full serve state. I know a guy who pumps gas and makes on average about $80 a day in tips (summer), and about $10 a day in tips (winter). This is at WaWa. Kinda like 7-11, only cleaner. They even have a 401k which they match, stocks, and health care which is like $50 a week. The only thing is you're working for $10 a hour. I wouldn't want to pump gas for 40 years though.

I have lived in NJ for 42 years and I have never, and don't know anyone who has, tipped the gas station attendant... Especially not at Wawa where they are working for a big company that provides real pay. Are these all just crazy out of staters?
 
I can no longer tell what the employees were upset about. The tip story still doesn't seem to be correct.

And in any case, the Sonic locations could never pay them less than the state minimum wage.
