Songs were happy, then....

I've noticed that all the music of "back then" was all happy. I used to volunteer at a Residence (old-folks home), and whenever they played music for the people, it was either just instrumental, or had some man or woman singing on it. The thing was, it always sounded nice, that is to say, it gave off friendly vibes - y'know?

But now, there's all this garbage (rap, hiphop, whatever it's referred to) that only seems to be concerned with killing, drugs, and sex. Why is it? Why do these people such as 50-cent, P-diddy (whatever his name is), or Ludacris get payed for the garbage spewing from their mouths? Saying pretty much everything this waste of human flesh said, from the movie, in this thread : click on the link

I didn't mention rock and roll (in the sense of ACDC) because it is generally a little more tasteful, and nice to listen to.

Not that this stuff hurts my ears, physically, but what was the focal point that caused this revolution?

this is the era of "Attitude". every once in a while tho, there is still a happy-go-lucky song that gets some airplay.

Music has become too specialized. You've got all these subgenres of rock and there isn't even really just straight rap, there are different kinds of that too. I dunno, I think the world is a more serious place now, but the artists you make reference to just suck.

That's just because you don't like rap/hiphop. There are always positive influences out there. True, there's Gangsta Rap and all that junk, but what about Death-Metal and that crap? If I had to pick one, I'd gladly pick Gangsta Rap over that Death Metal crap.

Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days
Oh, yes, those were the days

I wouldn't. Rap artists have no musical talent. At least a death-metal band can (somewhat) play instruments.

by "back then," we're talking what? 40's - 60's?

the pop was happy/upbeat, just like the pop today is happy and upbeat. but a great many of the songs were not.

the advantage of playing oldies is that you can take a handful of songs from a couple different years and present them as an overall trend, whereas with contemporary music, you're forced to listen to all of it (or at least whatever you hear on the radio).
