Usually songs go south once they get to the bridge. Lots of songs lately I've noticed have terrible bridges/transitions. Not sure what's going on.

Not only does it (agualung) not suck after the beginning, but the end if basically the beginning over again, including said intro, so it's pretty much impossible for it to start off good but not finish that way.

QFT.

aqualung is in my top ten list of songs of all time.

This stuff really bothers me. Why do musicians make a song that starts cool then turns to shit? Is that intentional? Was it their goal to suck?

Lloyd - miss that pussy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrQAdM581Pk
This song starts good. Talented singer, good backup singers, good instrumentals, good enough lyrics. Then it turns to complete shit.

That's not just 1 bad verse. That's 1/3 of the song.

Jethro Tull - aqualung
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1xY7Heaqg8
One of the most easily recognized intros ever. Everybody has heard this song. Then it turns to shit.

Just hearing that made you less of a man.

Rolling Stones - can't you hear me knocking
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fa4HUiFJ6c
I love this song. It's catchy as hell and it's fun to play in Guitar Hero. Then half the song is this shit.

Any others you know of?

Can't You Hear Me Knocking's ending is awesome. That samba beat groove is very cool.

My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade.
Love the start of this song and then the second half turns into some crappy grungy punk junk.

Lost Prophets - Sway
8+ minute song with half of it awesome and the other half will put you to sleep.

Shinedown - Sound of Madness
Drum intro is freaking awesome. Rest is okay, but not nearly as great as the intro

The Smiths - Meat is Murder
Another one with a decent intro that just turns to plain crap.

Slipknot – Before I Forget
Starts good, goes bad, goes good, and goes bad. One rollercoaster of a song in how it's done style wise.

There was a Lacuna Coil song that I can't remember that does the same thing. Starts off one way and changes directions completely part way through. Can't remember which one it was. I know of others but none of them I can remember off the top of my head.

The Doors - Light My Fire (the hugely long instrumental is tedious)
Derek and the Dominoes - Layla (the lyrics end, then the song goes on 4 more minutes or something)

Smashing Pumpkins - Drown. The first 2 or 3 minutes are about as good as it gets for SP...then there's like 7 minutes of guitar distortion that doesn't have any semblance of melody and barely even fits with the rest of the song.

That pretty much describes Oasis' Be Here Now album. It starts off with this decent song that is an awesome wall of sound. You got all excited thinking, "man, this is gonna be great". But then the rest of the album just barely does anything and it is full of guitar solos just for the sake of having a guitar solo.

All the korean pop shit.

Incorrect; those songs start bad and stay bad.

Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride

I dunno, I kind of like the long instrumental session in the middle but I can understand why some people don't. Wikipedia says the single version is almost two minutes shorter than the full version.

I'll say Hey Jude. Great song but I am almost never able to finish listening to it because of the very long outro. Might seem strange since I am fine with the instrumental sections of Light My Fire and Magic Carpet Ride, but that might be because in Hey Jude it's just the same thing repeated over and over again with no changes. If they were to cut the fade-out length from 4 minutes down to, say, 45 seconds, I'd be fine with that.

I like that entire song. Which part do you dislike? To link to a specific time in a youtube video, right click on the video and select something like "copy url for this time"

Magic Carpet Ride
Yes! I remember that song from a Dodge commercial. I asked my mom what song that was and she told me. She had it on LP. Started out great then the second half is just.... wtf man

I wish more musicians would figure out the key to a good song is brevity.
Nah. It is important not to repeat the same thing so many times that it's dull, instead of stopping while it still has your attention, but that does not necessitate brevity.

The canonical example, Thick as Brick:

Edit: Oh, and how could I forget this one?
Allman brothers band - Whippin' Post:

When I saw them last ('06?), they drew it out to ~20 minutes so some of the band could have a piss, beer, and pot break :).
