Songs skip while playing through winamp and using PC at same time.

Whenever I am messing around with stuff on my pc, songs tend to skip when playing through winamp and I am using the pc at the same time. It did not do this on my old computer, and I had a way less powerful computer.

Old Computer:
1ghz Duron
320 mb Ram
SB Live! Value

New Computer:
2.8 ghz P4
1gB Ram
SB Audigy 2

I notice that mplayer does not have this problem, but I like winamp alot better. I have tried multiples versions of winamp with no success.

Try foobar2k, it might take a bit to get used to the spartan UI, but it's really a better player overall.

Just a guess but maybe it would help if you increased the Buffer lenth under the
PLUG-INs
-OUPUT
--DirectSound output setting
---Buffering TAB
----Buffer Length Setting

Make sure you're running the latest sound and chipset drivers for your system. Also don't overclock anything.

I put it up to 4000ms, should that be enough? Oh, merry christmas.

Increasing the buffer helped some, but it still skips when I am using applications (like fast defrag, watching movies).......

Could it be becasue all of my music is on the seperate hard drive? I have a c drive with 160 gigs of space, and a d drive with 60 gigs. I keep my music on the d drive.
