If I were to go deaf, I could take some small comfort in the fact that I would never hear it again.

Other mentions are actually done by the same artist who fronts two different bands:

No Quarter remake by Tool
Imagine remake by APC....this one in particular was an absolute slaughter of the original.

they did a good job on the song and the video.

Ummm, no. It sucks. I mean, it's ok for them, but Seger completely rules that song.

I'm not an "original purists", so if a remake/cover is decent, I like it. Therefore, "Turn the Page" was a great cover.
I even like the Godsmack cover of Led Zeppelin?s ?Good Times, Bad Times?. I can see all the rabid fans going apepoo over this.

the sad thing is, if somebody beat fred durst to death, he would be immediately heralded as a great musician. just when i thought the world forgot about his crap....

While I'm in full agreement about the re-make of Lennon's Imagine, Tool's No Quarter is a cover that I enjoy even more than the original.

ETA: I also rather enjoy APC's remake of Failure's The Nurse Who Loved Me.

APC's Imagine is pretty bad, as well as anything with Fred Durst.

Anthrax's Bring the Noise was great. Text

While Korn's ABitW is far from great, I do not share naked's loathing for it.

APC's Imagine sucks without a doubt, but I just can't say the same for Tool's remake of No Quarter. That song rocks by both bands IMO.

Your example in the OP is spot on though.

Edit: My entry into the "Song remakes that should have never been done" pool would have to be "Behind Blue Eyes" by Limp Bizkit. Durst really messes with music he has no business messing with...

I actually liked Metallica's cover of Turn the Page.

By far, the worst cover I've heard recently (I haven't heard Madonna's American Pie) is Britney Spears' cover of the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction".

OMG almost lost my lunch when I heard it.

Guns and Roses - Knockin' on Heaven's Door

I felt like sending them some yogurt and a psyllium husk sandwich to help them out with their problem.

What do you guys have against Metallica's Turn the Page? I've overplayed the hell out of that song. :D

Bad covers:
-Madonna's 'American Pie' - some classics should just never be tampered with.
-Limp Bizkit's 'Behind Blue Eyes' (which includes a L.I.M.P spell-out, as if Durst's whiny voice wasn't enough)
-Most of the songs at Metallica's MTV Icon special (Limp Bizkit does '(Welcome Home) Sanitariuam', Avril Lavigne does 'Fuel')
-Fred Durst also did his own version (new lyrics) of 'Wish You Were Here' (I think a duet with the Goo Goo Dolls guy?) in a 9/11 tribute performance. It's a simple song, hard to mess up, but the dude's voice is just fucking annoying.
-Celine Dion - You Shook Me All Night Long (LOL)

I agree with GnR's 'Knockin on Heaven's Door'. The band is responsible for some of my all-time favorite songs but this one is just...weird.

#1 - Korn - Another Brick in the Wall
Is that the one from 'The Faculty Soundtrack'? Credited to 'Class of '99', some kind of super-group?

A lot of people hate Sheryl Crow's Sweet Child O' Mine but I can live with that.

No, that one was actually decent. I swear the Korn version actually makes me twitch when I hear it.

Flyleaf's cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit. I've heard better sounds squelching from my ass after too much beer and buffalo wings. It looked prettier, too.

Yea I'm going to agree with others that Tool's No Quarter cover is actually right up there with the original, however, if only for the greater impact the bassist has, likely due to better sound recording methods that LZ did not have access to at the time. That's my only guess, that or just the way the bass was mixed in.
However, LZ's No Quarter live version on the The Song Remains The Same live album might me more enjoyable.
