Song of the Day

FoBoT

No Lifer

This song appears on the album "Flood (1990)" by They Might Be Giants.

Lyrics
Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Oh Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night

Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way

So, Take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Oh Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks

Istanbul
Istanbul

Istanbul
Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Oh Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks

So, Take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Oh Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks

Istanbul

I had a teacher in 8th grade who insisted the pronounciation of Constantinople was kahn-stant-in-op-ul-ee.

Best teacher ever.

Edit: I love that whole album.

i saw them live at my school and then at williams a few days later.

both great shows.

now they are featured on my daughter's ABC's DVD.

The CD for No! has Flash thingies that might interest her once she's a little older, too. My youngest one loved Here Come the ABCs (and still watches it from time to time) and has lots of fun with No!

TMBG is great but that is their best known song. Though I still love it.

I really liked their latest album, experimental film, especially the progression On Earth My Nina -> Anin Ym Htrae No -> Thunderbird.

Too many great songs to name, so I'll pick one:
She was a Hotel Detective.
