DAVE MATTHEWS BAND - The Stone Lyrics
I've this creeping
Suspicion that things are not as they seem
Reassure me
Why do I feel as if I'm in too deep
I've been praying
For some way to show them
I'm not what they see
Yes I have done wrong
But what I did I thought needed be done
I swear
Unholy day
If I leave now I might get away
This weighs on me
As heavy as stone and as blue as I go
I was just wondering if you'd come along
To hold up my head when my head won't hold on
I'll do the same if the same's what you want
If not I'll go
I will go alone
I'm a long way
From that fool's mistake and now forever pay
No, run
I will run and I'll be ok
I was just wondering if you'd come along
To hold up my head when my head won't hold on
I'll do the same if the same's what you want
If not I'll go
I will go alone
I need so
To stay in your arms see you smile hold you close
And it weighs on me
As heavy as stone and a bone chilling cold
I was just wondering if you'd come along
Tell me you will

About? Studies show that 98% of Dave Matthews songs are randomly strung together words.

I think it's about LSD and anti vietnam war. That's what people say songs are about when they don't have a fvcking clue.

The Stone represents death. Literally, it is a gravestone. We do know that death is the motif, because of the common theme of blue that Dave uses in song to signify death. The subject expresses guilt over a death, and over a death they may have caused.

And, the meaning of my favorite DMB song of all time:

Dreaming Tree

Questioning faith in the eyes of death is the message of this complex song. Beginning with the ?If I had the faith to?? calls out God directly, sighting the things that the person has done, despite the death of this loved one. The Dreaming Tree is that happy place, figuratively or literally, where everything is all right in the world. Speculation over the identity of the deceased person is rampant due to the masking ambiguity of the song.

Ants Marching is def. my favorite DMB track of all time. The Red Rock's live CD is pretty amazing, one of the best live CD's i've ever heard.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Seek Up from that album is SUCH a powerful song. I still don't know if I like that version better or the version from Live at Luther College

Strangely enough, I think this song may have more meaning than that.

Another one of my favorites:
Cry Freedom

Influenced by Steven Biko (who was immortalized in the Peter Gabriel song Biko), leader of the Black Consciousness Movement in South Africa in the 1970?s. The Richard Attenborough Film (1987) also about Biko shares the song title. The song deals with life in pre-apartheid (and some might say current) South Africa.

IMO, the Luther College version is better. It's true that the Red Rock version is more powerful, but he screws up the verses. While the Luther College version is much darker and has better guitar work (naturally).

Seek Up is my favorite DMB song (along with Warehouse I suppose), but unfortunately it was not played the only time I ever saw DMB, which was (according to that cool website you linked) on 11/3/98.

Screw dave mathews and his complicated lyrics, listen to Juelz Santana, he writes easily interpreted music

"Turn your head around, bend over and look at your asshole as if it was a mirror, cause you bitches is $hit"

Basically hes saying that they're $hit, no need for intepretation
