i was looking at this case and it looked like a pretty good case. Noise is anissue for me, and i though this could work, but i heard that its doesnt offer great cooling and is a pretty tight fit. I have an AMD 64 3000+, corisar XMS 1gig, WD raptor 74 gigs, ati radeon 9800 pro, and SB audigy 2 sound card (im not sure abut the motherboard yet). So will i need another case or will that work? If it doesnt do you know any other cases that would work?

thanks in advance.

fishgood,

I don't have any experience withthe Sonata, but I did just buy an Antec 3700-BQE and love it. My last case
was a Chieftec/Chinming with three 80m fans and sounded like a jet spooling up. The 3700 has two 120mm
fans which turn slower and thus there is less noise. The pitch is lower and that helps also.

This case was $75 from NewEgg with $15 shipping, so it is cheaper than a Sonata, and the right side cover
comes off, which helps with tidying things up.

As for cooling, I run SETI 24/7 and the temps are about 41-44C, which is the same as the old case. My chip is
running at 3.3 instead of 3.0.

Good luck,

I have a sonata with the following in it:

Athlon XP 2800+ w/ Alpha 8045 heat sink and 80mm Panaflo L1A, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, 1 Gig RAM, two 40 gig Maxtor HDD's, one 40 gig seagate HDD, SB Audigy, all on a Soyo KT 400 Dragon Ultra motherboard.

I did install a second 120mm fan in the front (vantec stealth) but other than that I have made no modifications to the case.

My temps are : CPU idle 42 C, load 46 C..... Case idle 31 C, load 34 C

it stays pretty cool in my room ambient, as the summer goes on however, i expect to see these temps rise a bit, but nothing too hot I wouldn't imagine

I've got a Sonata and I fit my system into it:
Abit NF7-S
Athlon XP 2500+ overclocked to 3200+
36GB WD Raptor, 80GB 7200RPM Maxtor drive
8x dual format DVD burner, 52x CD burner
Wireless NIC, ATI TV Wonder VE
BFG GeForce FX 5900 overclocked to 475\950 (FX5950 speeds)

Not a problem in sight for me, you should be fine with the Sonata.

MDE, this also answers my same question on this topic. Building a system for a friend and overclocking a AXP2600M. He wanted the Sonata case as well. When you put the second 120mm fan on, do you blow across the hard drives or should it pull air from the front across the hard drives?

The only mounting available that I know of is behind the drives, so it pulls air across them. I just installed a rounded ide cable so that I can have easy access to the drives yet have the cable available in the event I need to pull the drives. Use the rubber mounting nubs for the fan and you won't hear a thing. I have the stock 120mm fan in the rear and a pabst 120 in the front. Also, a pabst 92mm fan on my slk900a.

It's so cold in there I could put a diet-coke on my hard drive.

I had a Sonata and had the ASUS dual xeon board in there- it was a thing of beauty.....sold it. :D

I installed the second 120mm fan as well and it was nice. If I would change anything, it would be the ANTEC name stamped out in holes on the side of the case.... nice little dust shelves is what it amounts to.

I personally think the cooling is of the case is fine. It may be a snug fit, depending on your motherboard size, but it should be able to handle any board you throw at it. The motherboard tray is NOT removable. The "front" 120mm fan goes behind the drive racks and you pull air over the hard drives.

My biggest complaint is the finishing. I now regret buying such a high gloss case because finger prints and scratches stand out on it.
