On my sonata II case, the bottom usb port works fine with my usb 2.0 drive, but the top port doesn't recognize it at all. The header connected to the motherboard can only fit one way so I don't know how it could be in incorrectly, so what is the problem?

hello my twin. does your mobo have a 2nd set of pins? is the all usb ports enabled in the bios? Just guessing here cuz you didn't list what mobo you are currently using.

Now, I am using an abit av8. There are two sets of usb headers, but they are labelled "USB56" and "USB78" so I assumed each one supported two usb ports. Also there is only one usb connector coming from the front panel. Everything is enabled as far as I know in the bios.

I can try that when I get home. I don't know what difference that will make though, since I had the same problem with my old motherboard. It seems like the cable coming out of the front panel is defective or something.

Maybe this will sound stupid, but are you sure the device you're connecting into the top USB port is actually going into the port? On my low-end Antec case, the front USB ports are mounted in a flimsy fashion so that when I try to plug a device into the top port, the ports bend back behind the front bezel and it's hard to get something plugged in. The bottom one is firmer since the two ports are mounted as one unit connected at the base. Just something to consider...

I have an one antec case front usb port that won't work and sadly to say your problem could be the same as mine; very poor seating position of the usb ports. The insertion isn't deep enough to work properly. The plastic tabs that hold the ports are recessed too deep behind the front panel to work with any devices. Sorry to say I just ignored the problem.

edit: the ports worked with front panel removed.

Apparantly not

but it didn't hurt anything either, the bottom port still works. Maybe someone else will have more success.
