Sonata II $46 Shipped AR + AC

Thank you. The last rebate offer worked well for the wifey and was waiting to get one for myself. Would have missed it.

Thaks again

Chubby Wallet has 2.0% back at Newegg right now (usually 1.0%), and you can also get 1.5% back if you use your Newegg Preferred Card, so you can save another couple of bucks.

For $45, this case/PSU combo is a steal. Antec rebates have always gone smoothly for me, but they do take nearly all of the allotted time to pay.

That's a sweet deal. The Sonata may not be the ultimate case, but at that price it's positively fantastic.

This has been said quite a few times, but since it hasn't been mentioned on this thread, I thought I'd chime in. Antec power supplies have seen a considerable drop in quality in recent years

Bear in mind, I have purchased 3 incredibly priced Antec cases/psus from Fry's in the last 6 months (2 p150s and an SLK), and, knock on wood, they have been treating me well. I did enter into the relationship fully aware of the risks involved. I recommend that you do the same.

A lot of people buy Antec cases and swap out the PSU. When you start doing that, though, the net price involved is not that low.

Yeah the 12V rails seem kind of wimpy. Even then I think $46 is a fine price for a case alone and you could probably sell the PSU for cheap on FS/FT if you don't want it and get some $ back.

edit: does anyone know if there's a good place in this case to place a fan (what size?) for blowing on HDs?

Assuming, of course, that your installing your HDs in the internal 3.5" bays, the "front 120mm case fan (optional) 25mm thick" is located right in front of those bays. Keep in mind, though, that, unlike the P150, the internal bays face the side panel rather than the front of the case, putting a bit more metal between the fan and the drives. In other words, with the P150, you've got the front fan(s) blowing directly on the suspended drives, with the Sonata II, you've got the fan blowing through the holes in the shelves.

The Antec PSU's built by Channelwall usually won't fail right away, over time the Fuhjjyu caps degrade at an accellerated rate when run hot (like in a PSU with a small, low RPM fan...), usually a year or so for problems to crop up. Ambient temps in the case have a great deal of impact on how long these units last since hotter air entering the PSU will accelerate the cap failure. Antec has since moved to Seasonic built units in their TruePower and Earthwatts lineup, the later of which is featured in the Sonata III case. The Seasonic built units have generally reviewed well and seem to be of much higher quality than the previous generation Antec supplies featuring self destructing caps.

The Sonata II in this deal features a SmartPower 2.0 unit which is of the notorious Channelwall build. The case itself is of good quality, built like a tank with a nice piano black finish out of thick steel (great for noise, a bit airflow restricted which can impact temps). You can probably ditch the stock PSU on Ebay and then replace it with something of higher quality.

sonata is a good case🙂
