There is a barkless dog, not sure of spelling but it's something like 'Basingi'?? I don't think it would be so good for a child's pet though, temperment wise.
They don't bark at all - they yodel. It can be just as loud and just as annoying...

This is no problem at all. And, I agree with the owner. Screw having animals around. If the landlord's dog got grandfathered in, she's just lucky. No dogs allowed means, NO DOGS ALLOWED! Your son asks for a dog, you say no. How hard is that? 😕

Who said it was? 😕

Hell I want a dog too. 😉

They are very playful and rambunctous. Their yodel is something like you will stop and say WTF is that. But, normally they only do it when they are excited.

My parents had no problem saying"no" when appropriate.
Serves me well today.
Maybe something today's parents have forgotten.

Calm down guys, I do not spoil my son! Granted he will be 7 this June and he has a:

Computer in his room (P3-700Mhz) With High Speed Internet
APEX 20" TV
JVC VCR
JVC DVD Player
Gamecube +35 Games
N64 +40 Games
Gameboy SP
About 30 DVD's
About 100 VHS tapes
About 200 Books
Tons of Toys
Bike,Scooter,RollerBlades,Skateboard.

Now some of you may say he's spoiled BUT I say I only have 1 child and he is a Very good boy. Top in his Class
he is in the Gifted Program, He reads at 4 grade level. And a math wiz (for his age) And he does Chores and when he asks for things if I tell him NO! he NEVER argues he just says "OK dad" he's a great Kid very mature for his age. I thank GOD I can give him what I can. He may have alot but he is not spoiled. He already knows I can't get him a dog and he understands.

Well if he never argues and just says "OK dad"... then explaine to him that pets are not allowed in your apt building and that if/when you move into a place that allows pets, getting a dog would be considered more seriously.

As for all of those that say he is spoiled, you can't really tell without meeting the kid in person. Just because a person has a lot of things dosen't necessarly mean they are spoiled, if that was the case every child whos parents were loaded would be spoiled, and those that were in a lower income bracket wouldn't be? Lets get real, what was listed in the list of items in his room is not uncommon for many children to have, a computer is almost a necessity, the tv and game consoles are a permanent fixture in just about every home in america, bike/scooter/rollerblades... damn near every 7 yr old in the country has these.

for all you asshats out there calling his son "spoiled" STFU! My kids have the same stuff and they are not spoiled. I dont think at all of the stuff Epoman's kid has is not even close of being over the top and labeling him as spoiled.

depending on how mature your son is, you could always look into canine companions a great org that always is looking for new trainers. a landlord can not refuse to have one as a pet and can not make you pay any pet deposit or anything of the sort.
the problem is, especially with a younger child, you only train each dog for 13-16 months, so you get attached and then have to send the dog onto further training.
on the positive, it would a good responsibility teaching tool for him, as well as something good for both of you to do together.

I think they can only refuse if the dog is helping you if you are disabled. Not if you just a trainer. Correct me if I'm wrong.

i think you have that correctly - there are only three places that a training dog can be refused to be let into - a restaurant kitchen, an operating room and a bomb shelter. all other places must allow them full access with no penalties, including landlords. there are of course, small stipulations for that, like some airlines won't let a puppy under 8 months onto flights, etc, but landlords and such can not refuse to let you train one of the dogs

Mine yodeled twice in its 8 year life, and only for like 2 seconds at that.

Don't listen to these guys.
They are probably just jealous.

Spoiled kids throw tantrums when they don't get what they want. They have all the stuff they have because their parents give in and buy them what they want to get them to stop whining about it.

If your son is respectful and doesn't argue with you when you tell him no to something, then he is not spoiled at all.
At first, I was a little bothered by the fact that he has so many couch potato encouraging items(computer, tv, video games) in his own room. But from your other comments, It's pretty clear that he does NOT spend 6 hours a day staring at the tv or computer.

As far as the dog thing, I know what that is like. My kids and my wife and I had really wanted a dog for years but were unable to because we lived in rentals. We were finally able to get one when we bought a house a year and a half ago. My son is 9 years old now and I also have 3 daughters aged 6, 3, and 1 month, so they had to wait quite a few years. It's just something he will have to wait for. I know it sucks to not be able to have a dog, but you also have to realize that you are living in someone else's property and they have concerns about it's condition. It is irritating, but I don't think it makes the landlord an A$$.

Correct! its unfair.
It's not unreasonable to allow people who already own dogs to keep them while not allowing new ones.
What would have been unfair is if they made everyone who already had dogs sell them.

Only some states include service animals in training in the legal protection offered to regular service animals. Regardless, the fair housing laws ONLY apply to people with disabilities. And the federal fair housing act does NOT include animals-in-training.
