My daughter's guinea pig, she's had since she was 2. (she's 6 now)

I noticed Zoe (the pig) hadn't been eating or drinking or coming out of her little bedroom for the last couple days.
I opened the cage and she didn't come running out like normal so I lifted up her bedroom and she was laying there gasping.

I don't know why, it was just a darn guinea pig, but I feel like ass right now. I took it out back, dug a hole, and shot her with my pellet gun.

The guinea pig was 4 years old, and while they can live to 7, their life expectancy is 4-7 years.

It was good while it lasted, RIP Zoe :(.

Now I have to tell my 6 year old daughter in the morning that Zoe's dead...
Hopefully the 4-8 inches of snow they're predicting for tonight/tomorrow causes school to be closed so she doesn't have to go to school all sad.

I'm going to have a drink now.

Should know how to fix this situation.

Get another one that looks the same and replace it or if none come close then get some paint... ;)

I'm guessing you feel like ass because you know how hard it's going to be on your daughter =(
Hope she takes it well- I remember as a kid my sister and I had a pair of gerbils- one of them died and I walked in to see the other one eating the dead one...that scarred me for a bit (I was really young). Just be glad she didn't have to find it gasping for air/suffering.

Maybe tell your daughter you'll put up a little tombstone for the pet once the snow melts? She might be too young for that though.

You could always run out and get her a replacement guinea pig of almost the same color.

Or, you could get her a fainting goat for Christmas, they live a lot longer. :p

God, I can't imagine having one of those. I'd spend hours a day finding ways to scare the damn thing... while that would be really REALLY fun, I'd end up feeling like a cruel sadistic bastard. Then I'd do it some more.

Awwww. I know how you feel. My brother had a guinea pig for a couple years. The dumb little things just don't have any fight in them. I guess some sort of natural population control - they get even slightly sick and they just kick off.

Don't try to get another one that looks the same, though. Your daughter should learn about death now when it's just a little guinea pig, not a bigger pet or a friend or loved one.

It's honestly wasn't meant to be funny... more of a mocking of those images going around.
