Just get down to Ashland here (performing in Forever Plaid.... shameless plug). Get the computer hooked up, and the processor fan(s) finally bite the bullet. Damnit. Damn, damn, damn.

So now... do I just pick a replacement Pentium III slot I chip... or fork over the cash for something new? Tempted to go new, just because this mobo is 5 years old or so.

Depends on the cash you have on hand now vs something you can save up for.

If you're looking to upgrade in the future and don't have the $$, just go get a replacement fan. Relatively cheap too.

If the chip is fried, probably God/Allah/insertdietyhereyouworship/Bill Gates that you need to upgrade. Depending on what you have in your PC now, you could upgrade to an A64 board/processor, decent 6600GT video card, 512Mb of decent DDR ram for around $500.

I'd say the processor is fried.

Video gard is a decent GeForce 4, that suits me fine, so likely looking at mobo/cpu/ram. Think around $200-250 range, maybe more. Annoying, to say the least
