Somone explain lost to me

Ive watched about 2 episodes, I remember some crazy beast that was killing people, and they were in some bunker and they kept typing codes into a computer for some reason.
Everyone seems to be talking about it but ive never really watched it, nor do i plan do its way to long to start now. So who wants to sum up the story for me?

People crash on magical island, people find weird hatches on said island, people are attacked by mysterious bad people on island, some people leave island, other people go back in time on island, people that left come back to island as well as go back in time, people explode a bomb on island in order to try to prevent their plane from crashing in the first place, people die on island.

writers confuse "cryptic and mysterious story telling" with "confusing, borderline terrible story telling" and the masses eat it up like crack

It's just like metal gear solid but in a show

rofl, you just put down LOST and MGS in the same post. you must be a real winner

Writers make ridiculous show.
Show becomes stupidly popular.
Writers run out of ideas so just come up with shit the day before filming.
ABC realizes LOST is the only thing keeping the station afloat requests more shows.
Writers continue to fail miserably.
Viewers finally catch on that the show was horrible to begin with.
Future: ABC goes under.

ABC will never go under if NBC stays as shitty as they've been.

A plane crash strands people on an island. They have nothing to do so they save the world from evil, and then die happily ever after.

Think

Survivor + Lord of the Rings + a dose of theoretical physics all combined into a story that tries to parallel the stories of the Bible.

I've always said that Lost was a social experiment to see how much bullshit people will endure before getting upset.

The fanbois will tell you, "If you don't 'get' Lost, GET LOST!"

The anti-fanbois will tell you how and why they don't like it in almost as much painful detail as it takes to explain a single episode of Lost to a non-viewer.

The rest of us? Our reactions range from, "Cool story, brah." and "Tl;dw" through, "It's on the Tivo, I don't have a life anyway, let's have another look-see " to "Huh, wha? I thought he was dead, Jim, dead!" and "Now let me see if I have this straight . . . uhhhhhhh . . ."

Personally, I wasn't a huge fan, but I do applaud the attempt and will grant that it was more inventive and audacious and intricately layered than most of the rest of TV.

i watched the first 6 eps years ago and felt it was very MEH, and didnt watch anymore somewhat amazed it kept going as long as it did. i remember reading ep summary's at one point and thinking to myself that it made absoutly no sence whatsoever. very much like MGS for the PS2

1. Island has exotic material, gave superpowers to two twin brothers
2. Twin brothers want to kill each other, but cannot
3. A research group arrived to study it in the 1970s, fought natives
4. Natives used chemical weapons against the research group
5. One twin brother devises plan to kill the other, other twin brother wants to retire and brings people to the island as candidates for his replacement to keep his brother trapped on the island
6. Candidates fight each other, natives and are manipulated by both brothers
7. Everyone dies

I don't think you even have to have good taste to see how awful they both really are. If a story ends and you're thinking more "huh...wuh?" than anything else then it has failed as a good story.

If that is your argument on why one of the best TV shows and video games of all time are bad, I feel bad for you 🙁

I did not watch a single episode, but from hearing people talk about it...

They crashed on an island....

weird stuff happens for 6 seasons....

finale....they find out that no one survived the crash and that they were dead this whole time. The island was a place where people did not accept they were dead yet.

Okay... look, they aren't as 'awful' as I'm inferring but they're indeed overblown by incredibly rabid fans. MGS at least had some alright gameplay to it that I initially enjoyed, but the story was a mess. Lost has no gameplay to save it and overall it turned into an overmilked cash cow that overstayed its welcome. It had a chance and blew it.
