Somewhat Technical: Why do certain video games make my 6800GT run hotter

Guys, just got my GT and love everything about it. It overclocked to Ultra speeds out of the box and the temp remains a constant 59c with no load...

One very strange thing I have noticed multiple times. When running Doom 3 for hours the temp never exceeds 72c. As soon as I exit the game I go to the Nvidia control panel to check temp.
However, if I play Far Cry for an extended period of time, the card runs hotter, all the way up to 79C, which is still safe, but pretty damn hot. Can anyone explain to me why this could happen? Assume that every other variable is the same, my room is 72f and I am playing at nightime with no sunshine coming through...

thats a very innacurrate way to check temps. they can drop 10C in a few seconds while you're exiting the game and the temp monitor is opening. to be sure, use 2 monitors, or i think rivatuner has a history function.

I mean I can understand if Doom 3 took 10 seconds to unload, but on my sys its almost immediate.. If anything, Far Cry takes a couple of more seconds to get me back to my desktop. Thanks for the advice though..
