Somewhat of a Phenom success

Alright so i have had this system since May

9850BE
MSI K9A2 Platinum
4x WD 640GB RAID 0
4GB G.Skill DDR2-800
2x HD 3870

Now, i have used Vista with this system since i bought it.
EVERYTHING i have tried with no success have i been able to get ANYTHING past 2.88 stable on vista.

Yesterday i installed XP to test VS my 9550 @ 2.8 which is also on XP
Booted up 2.9 stock volts no problems.

after an hour or so of messing around on XP (seems much more stable then vista)
i was able to get the 9850BE whose previous stable was 2.88 on vista to 3.24 on XP

its overnight prime stable, and it raised my 3dmark06 from 14500 to 16200
Winrar Bench went from 1,400kb/sec to 2,400kb/sec (vista is horrible for this bench)

All in all i was very unpleased with this buy at first. But after installing XP i feel much more at ease hitting 3.2 and with a SB750 board it might bring stability to Vista at those speeds.

I'm curious as to why the OS made such a difference for you.

My C2D overclock didn't seem to be held back much by vista.

I think Anandtech testing Phenom on 790 comes up with same conclusion, xp gives better overclock on phenom.

Can you tell us what settings you used in the bios? I'd like to play around with my settings to see what I can get.

HT @ 1.25V
NB @ 1.15V
Ram set to 1:1
HT Multi x10
NB Multi also x10

it was pretty much a pure Multi change from my vista settings, adding only .07 onto the vcore of the CPU

any specific questions you would like answered just ask. BTW perdomot, what board are you running?

64 bit registers use more of the processor than 32 is why

my oc was the same whether i used vitsa 32bit or 64bit

have tried both xp 32bit and 64bit now, and both OC as well, up to 3.2 stable
