My GF and I were driving back home from the store yesterday on I-485. She gets off our exit and as we come to the stoplight, we see a school bus go by in front of us. Nothing out of the ordinary, it was within school hours. The road we turn on is two lanes each way with a double yellow line seperating. In the direction we're traveling, the right lane is about to give out as it merges left.

The bus (which is in the right lane) is followed by an SUV and 3 cars (in the left lane), then us. As we drive along, the bus driver stops, turns on the lights and puts out the stop sign/signal. As this is happening, I'm watching the SUV driver closely as she doesn't seem to be stopping. Sure enough, as a kid is getting off the bus on the right side of the road, the SUV keeps going flying down the road in the left lane pass the bus, while we and the three other cars stay put.

I'm of couse yelling "stupid dumbass driver" b/c two kids have been killed in the past 2 months b/c of crap like this...

But no sooner than when the SUV passed the bus, there was a cop sitting on the opposite side of the road facing our direction of traffic. He flipped on his lights and got her ass 🙂 I believe that is 5 points now here in NC with no way of getting out of it 😛 It may be even stricter than that, b/c they have cracked down recently.

I think you should have stopped as well, even though u are on the other side (except if there is a solid divider in the middle)

good job officer !

ought to be some mandatory jail time for doing that, let alone loss of license.

Seriously owned. I think failure to stop for a school bus with its lights on is a... 2 month suspension in Pennsylvania.

Yep, just got out my trusty driving manual -- 60 day suspension and 5 points.

How does your point system work? I only know the good ol' 1 pt for speeding and regular stuff and 2 pts for being a psychopath

In Ontario it's either 6 or 7 out of 15 points as well as being a major conviction for the insurance companies (included in that list are speeding 50km/h over the limit and leaving the scene of an accident).... and rightfully so.
