Argh! I'm in the middle of a complete reinstall of Windows and all my applications thanks to one jerk of a brother-in-law...
My wife's brother is 20 and at university in the US... and he spent the holidays at our house this year. Now, he is mostly a good kid and all, but he really blew it his last night here! :|
I'm pretty guarded about who uses my PC and what they do to it, so it is locked up with both a Boot and security password. The time he was here, he would ask to check his email from time to time... I'd log on and let him, but stick around until he was done, then shutdown. He asked if he could install some stuff, but I said no - the system us really unstable and I don't want it messed up.
Thus, if I wasn't there, no computer use for him. I figured that was pretty paranoid of me, as I said he had been a good kid overall. And so the last night he was here, just before I was going to go to bed, he asked to check his mail. Sure, I said, and logged him on. Well, I was exhausted and didn't want to wait up, and as he had been pretty good about it so far... I went to bed and told him to shut it off when he was done.
STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!!!
Sure enough, the next time I use the system:
It had registry errors that wouldn't clear.
Mirc was installed.
The Internet would no longer connect (DNS errors)
Some program called "X" was starting and hiding on boot.
The system was infected with the J.S. Seeker virus.
3 other programs were installed and given full Server priveledges to my firewall
and there were cookies to a TON hard core porno sites (from that night after my wife and I were asleep - no one else was there). He knew to clear his temp. internet files, but the doofus forgot about cookies!
So I'm not sure if the DNS errors were my service being revoked or what (@Home tech support line is too busy). Tried to clear up all the crap but it was all installed everywhere. Got sick of it, couldn't clear the registry errors, so I am now trying to reinstall everything from scratch! Son of a B****!

Why would he go pulling all that crap after I told him not to install stuff and asked him not to do anything but check his mail!? Stupid... ARGH! It pisses me off!
