Sometimes Monitor show 'no signal' error

I have recently started having a problem when my Monitor sometimes gives the "no signal" error even though my computer is up and running. Pressing the keyboard/mouse to wake monitor doesn't work. However if I wait awhile (with the monitor on) and then press keyboard/mouse the monitor display the desktop. Also, if I unplug DVI cable and plug it back into LCD, it works again (no need press keyboard/mouse).

I have Acer AL2216W attached via DVI to Radeon x850 PRO. I have currently drivers dated from Nov 1, 2007. Running on Windows XP Pro. I will be going to test the latest driver from ATI to see if that helps.

I have set Win XP Pro power option to 'Never' turn off monitor, but that doesn't work.

I am not sure if this is LCD problem or Driver/card problem. Everything else seems to work fine.

Any ideas?

I have had mine do this also and have no clue why its done it. I was using an older DVI cable from a different monitor, but still not sure if that had anything to do with it. I cant remember if its done it in a while tho, I just know I have seen it happen and been pretty stumped.

If you go to Newegg and read Acer monitor user reviews , you will find your problem being mentionned, although usually with their 24-inch models. I remember from these comments that people are sending the monitor to Acer for repair and that it comes back with the same problem.

Some think that this is related to overheating and claim they have fixed it with a fan blowing at the vents behind the monitor.

Wow...I same the same monitor attached to almost the same card (x850 xt) and have the same problem. The newest drivers didn't fix it for me though. I first noticed this when i accidentally bumped the power button and when i turned it the monitor back on I got the no signal error. Now anytime it goes to sleep i have to log back into windows (running vista ultimate x86) and that will normally wake it up, if that doesn't do the trick, unplugging the dvi cable and plugging it back in will (but is certainly more of a pain)

Hmm, looks like a lot of people are having the same kind of problem. My problem just recently started, don't know why.

I don't think it is an overheating issue. I usually turn my monitor off at night (leaving PC on), then next day when I turn on monitor it gives the no signal error.

Looks like unplugging/replugging the DVI cable does work fine though. I might go try see if using VGA cables makes any difference.

My monitor has been doing that for a very long time and it's not even Acer.

It's 22' ViewSonic and my video card is ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB.
I should note however that my room gets very hot sometimes. So hot, that my PC shuts itself down due to CPU overheating every hour (not joking)
I don't know whether it has to do with video card or just high temperature in general.
Oh and I did try both VGA and DVI...same thing.

Looks like to get it work you need to get Vid card to completely redraw the screen.

Using ATI catalyst control I created a hotkey to Toggle between Standard Landscape rotation and Inverted Landscape rotation. Now after I get the no signal, I hit the key to Invert the display and Monitor gets back the signal! Or course I need to hit the Hotkey twice to get it back to normal.

Still sort of annoying but better than having to replugin the DVI cable! See if it works for any of you.
