Sometimes it blows me away

My sister and Brother-in-law are visiting, and he woke up and told me about his dream that night.
He said we walked all over Seattle looking for this club or restaurant, lost and laughing our asses off in the process.
I can see how he can dream like that, he used to walk. The thing is, he's been in a wheelchair for 33 years now, victim of a firefighting catastrophe.
I hardly ever remember my dreams, so things like this sometimes just blow me away.

He probably learned how to have lucid dreams. You can control the dream and do whatever you want.

A friend of mine went blind over 20 years ago and he still has dreams where he can see. I guess your brain archives a mental image of yourself where it still considers it natural to be able to walk or see, etc.

Not really the same type of dream, but I had a really messed up one last Thursday. Was napping between classes and just when I had to get up, I went back to sleep. Then I started dreaming about getting up or I actually woke up and couldn't move; freakiest thing to happen in a while.

we learned something about people who experience that. It's some kind of rare thing or something. I dunno don't remember much about that, but I've never experienced it. It would scare the hell out of me.

What I hate the most is those dreams where you seem to be running underwater and someones chasing you and no matter how hard you try to move your legs you only seem to run in slo mo... Its somewhat panic inducing lol I usually wake up right after that out of frustration

I've never had that sleep paralysis thing, that seems like it might be kinda freaky, but I knew a guy who had night terrors and those are REALLY freaky to listen too, dude talking and moving around in his sleep and then randomly waking up screaming at the top of his lungs, its like a possessed kid out of a horror movie.

It does seem weird dreaming about something which you have not been able to do for many years, since I don;t have any disability like that I cannot really relate to that. As for remembering your dreams, I usually remember 1-3 dreams upon waking up each morning, always the last one I had. In terms of "freakiest" things that I've ever had while sleeping I think the dreaming inside of dreams is probably number one, where you are dreaming and wake up and walk around and then realise that you are STILL dreaming. I have had that where I woke up threw 4 levels of dreams before waking up, but once you are "really" awake its very clear, but when asleep your brain does not think so clearly. The really weird thing about that time was that it wasn't just waking from one dream into another, one of them was actually being in a dream then falling alseep in that dream into another dream, then waking back up into the first and then later waking back up into reality.

Night terros? Wrong thread. Dreaming of walking and laughing is not a night terror. The other thing, sleep paralysis does not qualify as a night terror either.
Nope, worng thread.

Yes you have, every time you sleep, this happens. Just that it is unusual to wake up while still in sleep paralysis mode.

Those kind of experiences, where your legs won't move fast enough in your dreams, is a combination of the bed covers inhibiting leg movement and sleep paralysis. It happens to everybody. I don't like it either when it happens.

I thought it was sleep paralysis or w/e. I have had that quite a bit, amongst other things, and holy crap, its disturbing. But I find a way to deal. Sometimes I wake up. Or sometimes I fall back into sleep.

night terrors and sleep paralysis are different things. Night terrors are when you randomly wake up freaking out and forget where you are and who you are etc until you gain full consciousness..

I hate waking up having fallen asleep on my arm and I can't move my fingers or wrist sometimes. >.<

I have to manually move them with my other hand to stimulate blood flow.

man thats nothing, usually once a month I lose an entire arm. Worst ever though one time I lost both legs all the way up and didn't even know and when I rolled out of bed they both just buckled and I was on the ground unable to move my legs for 2 minutes as blood flow returned (which is a crazy as feeling when its that tingling all the way up half your body).

I've had that happen a number of times, too - first it'd be a swarm of bees chasing me, but once I started college, it progressed to people chasing me, and then they became increasingly well-armed.
The better ones were where I realized that something was really screwy with my inability to walk, so I did away with it, and was able to simply float away. Those were rare though.

Most of the dreams I can remember these days are just stupid little things, like me opening a door, or picking up a piece of paper, and then that's it. Maybe I'll have a dream about flying toasters next, it'll be more interesting.

One of my parents mentioned having something like that happen, except it was most of one leg that went out. Woke up, got out of bed, and promptly fell over when that leg didn't respond to commands.

It's weird that some people don't remember anything, others have fragments and some people like me can remember long sequences.
