Example:

i have the logitech port that goes to my keyboard and old wireless mouse. so i put the new mouse in that to charge over night. it is on and lit (3 green steady).

There is a cd that came with it - do you think i need to use that?

This one says (on box) "Worlds 1st Laser Mouse"
is that the problem?

I almost wondered if this person was just screwing around with me at first.

Having worked in tech support for years the correct answer is yes they are that dumb. At least when it comes to computers. I'm sure they know more about accounting or whatever they do then I do.

OK, that one's pretty good. I think people aren't really "tech stupid", just stupid. You should just look forward to adding these to your repertoire of amusing anecdotes. I know I do.
