They do a lot of weekend-only work on the expressways which is fine. But they usually don't put up any advanced warning signs. So your first indication that the ramp from the major road to the major expressway is closed is when you get to the ramp and there are a bunch of orange barrels across it. No 'Ramp Closed' signs, no programmable signs, no detour signs.
And likewise, when you are on a major express way and think you are going to merge onto another major expressway you'll suddenly see a line of orange barrels across that lane that say 'Fuck you and your plans'
I wouldn't think it would be that much work to tow one of those programmable signs to give people at least a little warning
