So I'm posting around, helping people out on hardware/OS/etc. forums.

I get to thinking...hey I really should defrag after reading about some guys performance issues.

Go to do that...says checkdisk bit is enabled and needs to run before I can do defrag. Cool...that's fine. I let it do it's thing.

Now...I log back in and not only does it take longer...StyleXP doesn't work right, I have to change some settings in there to get it working again.

Also...the taskbar does not show my programs that are open????WTF? I minimize them and they dissappear...

So I'm kinda pissed at that...I go in to defrag and it won't defrag. I click the button but it doesn't do anything. Just the highlighted drive the highlight blinks and then nothing. WTF?

I'm missing a ton of my startup icons....

I can't get the properties on my user anymore....a TON of stuff is all jacked up. What the hell happened here? ARGH!

I did that to someones 😛 Had to send the hard drive off to have data recovery
 
Well I found part of the problem (no it ISN'T bad sectors - and no I didn't break it doing a defrag...I haven't done a defrag yet)

There are a bunch of services that are not starting due to dependency errors and others I try to start manually and get Access Denied...looks like something in my profile got borked.

It's ATForum's fault because I read crap here and it got me to thinking it was about time to do a defrag...haven't done one in a long time.
 
That's the forum's fault as much as lardasses suing McDonalds for them being lardasses. And I bet they still say it's glandular. :roll:

hmm...created a new user account and I can't even log in with it. This doesn't look good.

My profile is 2.7GB hehehe

This is going to be fun. I may end up reloading windows though...it's been over a year since I did that. Lot of junk on here at the moment.

Linux doesn't support the programs and hardware I need to run.

I can't even drag icons on my desktop....I can open them but not drag them around....*sigh*

System Restore is disabled....I hate that thing. It just causes more problems. I will fix this.

I think that the issue is related to the security ID as chkdsk replaced some with defaults during it's scan.

I'm currently taking ownership of everything on all my hard drives to replace security permissions and such.

I will try a few other fixes and reboot and see what happens.
