Under the constitution, yes, that is EXACTLY what defines the letter of the law. It's the whole PURPOSE of the USSC, to interpret the law AS IS.

So am I to assume you believe that they were also correct in Plessy v. Ferguson or Dred Scott v. Sandford decisions as well?

As shitty as it sounds, slaves were property back then, and they basically ruled property doesn't have rights using the laws of the time. It's not the Justices fault, it's the lawmakers.
