The last couple of items I've sold I end up having to list a couple of times because of those damn Nigerian scams. Even when immediate payment is required. Happened again this morning.

Does anyone know of a way to prevent this?
 
Can you do "pre-approved bidders only"? I've seen that on several auctions, I'm not sure if it's something eBay has built in or people just email you with their user ID and you cancel all other bids if they haven't been approved by you.
 
I usually leave a message in big bold letter to the effect of No nigerian scammers please! I will not ship outside US (if it is your policy). I know every trick in the book! They leave me alone if I do that.

i would also list pre-approved bidder only or something like that. i used to sell things a while ago (like 3 years ago) on ebay but haven't ever since. i recall seeing an option for limiting who can bid on your item (e.g. "Bidder must have minimum of __ rating"). i may have dreamed this but i'm pretty sure it was an option. most of these scammers don't have a rating so it'll weed out a few
 
Same thing happened to me when I was trying to sell an unlocked phone. 3 times the item was sold to a Nigerian scammer and ebay had to refund my fees.

I remember there used to be an option to only allow pre-approved bidders but didn't see it, so I did Paypal required for Buy it now.
 
Hello, while I currently preside in New York, My son is studying in Lagos. I so much would like to send the gift to him for his birthday.
 
Between this sh*t and eBay unceremoniously banning sellers left and right, I'm absolutely sick of them, although I will admit that the idiots paying idiotic prices on there makes it a fantastic seller's market.
