Sometimes I get sound sometimes I don't.

On a five years old P/200/W98 computer the sound is intermittent some days its on some days its off without doing anything. Installed and reinstall, to different slot no difference.

Do have the latest sound card drivers, BIOS and chipset drivers for your system?
Is your sound card sharing an IRQ with something else?

have you tried rebooting the pc to see if the sound reinitialises when it's absent?
this has happen to me as well & rebooting cured my problem!

My mother's pc did the same thing. She had an SBLive. I moved it from slot 2 to slot 3 and the problem went away.

The problem is the sound card and mobo are so old cant find any documentation. Using default Win98 drivers.
