Sometimes I get colored vertical lines when boot

quadcells

Senior member
That is strange. If the computer is off for a while and then I go to boot up, the screen just has vertical colored lines. Reboot and it is ok.
I reseated the video card, but it still happens.
Epox 8KTA3 mainboard and a Gainward Geforce 3 TI200.
Any clues?
TIA

Mines kept doing that in Windows also. Are you OCing? I noticed it happens when you are OCing too hard. Other than that, it may be signs of vid card having problems.

Well the BIOS changes didn't help.
I think thier is a BIOS upgrade for the Gainward Geforce 3 TI200. I'll give that a try next.

Are you using WinXP???

Mine used to do the same thing (I have Epox 8KHA+).

My lines went away when I went back to Win2K.

Now that you said that,
With XP installed it did not do it.
Win 98SE installed it does.

Riddle me this Batman:
Why would a OS cause this problem? It happens right with the first screen where it shows you see the Video card info.

Check for new drivers... Are you using the driver that windows wanted? DL the current driver from the manufacturer. Also, you can try the reference drivers from nvidia instead of manufacturers.

OK now I'm confused.
When you first turn on your computer, the first two screens are the video card and then the POST( that is where I first see the "vertical lines"). They don't use the windows drivers, right?
And if so how would loading different drivers solve my problem.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Oh? I didn?t realize it was during post, not after. Sorry?

No, windows drivers have not kicked in. Take the card out and re-insert it. Do you have a different pc you can try it in? I don?t think it would be a problem w/ the monitor? Card may be going out?

WOW tech support got back to me with a BIOS upgrade for the Video card. Flashed it and now all is well.
Thanks again
