Hello everyone! First time poster. Read here many times and enjoy the site for a long time now.
I have a problem with video not coming on sometimes when booting.
Config :
- Antec VP450 power supply
- ASRock z77 extreme 4 mobo
- chip Intel i5 3450
- Zotac GTX560 Ti video
- 8gig ddr3 1600 mem by Kingston
- Win 7 x64 ultimate

Drivers all fresh updated and no issues otherwise. problem started few months back. essentially at some boot ups the video wont come on. sometimes it takes few restarts since I can still feel windowws booted so I tab twice and enter and seems to shutdown properly. so few times it comes on after a lengthy break sometimes not till I switch vid cable to onboard video and then shut off, switch back to vid card and restart.

I just can't seem to figure out how, why? I keep thinking some power management is screwing it all up, sometimes maybe confusion with onboard vid (which is disabled) or is it bad nvidia drivers? i updated or cleanly reinstalled, nothing...I just cant come up with any more ideas ...except to do a fresh install of windows which is last thing I thought left to do.

any ideas much appreciated!

cheers

could be lots of things , a few things I would try
-what monitor?
-what cable to the monitor? try another cable or at least disconnect and remount.
-monitor drivers installed? -depends on monitor digital or analog

-could try
-removing and reinstalling the vid card and check it's power cable
-update/reset mb bios
-set gpu boot to pci-e in bios ,might be on auto if the igpu works .

Do you use hdmi? I've gone through numerous TVs and video cards, but every once in a while on a cold boot, if the monitor isn't on by the time the machine boots into Windows, there's no video and I have to reboot.

ah I guess HDMI and not turning tv on before boot may b the issue.

and that list is extensive hehe but I will try as much as I can. the bios gpu setting I never even touched so I will have a look.

so far since the first post no issues.

tv is a 32 inch Hannspree. I swapped multiple cables. it has no dvi to try but only hdmi and vga and my gpu has no vga. could try a converter but dont wanna confuse the situation. the tv has no drivers or anything to set up except to set default graphic parameters so I can tweak by nVidia panel.

shall let you know how it is as I try different things but so far no problems.

cheers and thanks to both of you.

Hi all, so I've now tried with both dvi and hdmi on two other monitors and had same luck; all were working then not then I unplug the card pull it out and use onboard gpu, boot in check some stuff out and restart having put the card in and plugged and it loads normal.

The thing confusing me is that nothing can be seen on the screen from a cold boot (or reboot) not even the early splash screens and hardware checks. so could it even be a driver issue. and after the hardware replugging and restaring having worked it out, could it be considered a hardware issue? and what kind?
I am in my uefi setup utility now and in tab of Northbridge Config I see a changeable setting "Render Standby" ( set as enabled for me ) as well as deep render. not sure if those should do anything. Primary Adapter is set to be PCI Express.
I now cant get it to show anything even after it having been removed and plugged back in.

any further ideas?

thanks

I recently upgraded to a 7950, and experience something similar if i do a full shutdown (vs restart). My issue appears to be the card looses connection when it cools after being shutdown, requiring me to press on it to ensure it is fully seated before booting. Im probably going to migrate my setup to lay on the side so this doesn't end up ruining my motherboard.
